According to Islam, a family is a small institution. It represents the nucleus of the Muslim society. Such a
nucleus plays an important role in shaping the character of the Muslim. The success of the Muslim society, with all its large institutions, is based mainly upon the success of its small institution, namely, the family. That is, the success of fathers, mothers, and children in carrying out their duties leads to the success of the society,
as a whole, in fulfilling the rights of Allah (Glorified and Exalted be He), people, and the environment in
which we live. At first, the Muslim family consists of two partners: the wife and the husband. It is the Holy Qur’an and Prophetic Sunnah (Tradition) that combine both spouses in a holy contract and a firm, strong, and
weighty covenant.
