Strength and Ethics: Stories for My Grandchildren One day, my grandson Yusuf came to me upset with a broken toy car. He cried, with tears in his eyes and a look of anger, "My friend Imran broke my toy car!" I said to him, "Oh no! Are you angry about your toy being broken?" I turned and looked over at Imran, who was standing in a corner upset and confused and he said, "Yusuf, I'm sorry. I did not mean to break it." Yusuf responded angrily, "But you pushed down so hard on it that you broke its wheels off." So I said to Yusuf, "Yusuf, you have a right to feel upset, but you're being angry will not fix the situation. So instead, let's do something that will actually fix the problem, and ask your dad to put the wheels of the toy car back on. And what's even more important than this, is that Imran is your beloved friend and he has apologized to you. Don't forget how much you love him and enjoy playing with him." Yusuf replied, "I will never play with him again! How will his saying sorry help me?"

I responded to my grandson, "My Dear Yusuf, a man once came to the Prophet and said, 'Advise me.' The Prophetﷺ replied, 'Do not get angry.' On another occasion, the Prophet saw an angry man and he said, 'I know something, that if this angry said it, the anger he feels will go away.' The companions asked, 'What is that phrase?' The Prophet replied, 'He should say 'Authubillahi Minushaytaan Nirrajeem.'" So when Yusuf heard her say this, he began to get a hold of his anger and he said, "Authubillahi Minushaytaan Nirrajeem." I told him, "Why don't you call all of your friends together and we will narrate more stories of the Prophet. Yusuf was so happy and motivated to bring his friends to hear about the Prophet  that when his grandmother suggested this, he bolted off like a lightning flash calling them saying, "Everyone come and listen to the seerah!" All the friends came together to listen with a renewed sense of harmony. I told them, "I will talk to you about Sulh-Al-Hudaybiyya. Have you ever heard of it?" One of the children named Sa'd asked a question that showed his innocence and his lack of awareness, so what he said was funny. He asked, "Who is Al-Hudaybiyya? Is it the Hunchback's wife?"
