The Holy Qur’an , translated by Abdullah Yusuf Ali, is the sacred book of Islam. In the book ofThe Holy Qur’an , the words of Allah are translated into English. Allah orally revealed this book, the Quran, to the final Prophet of the Muslims, Muhammadﷺ , through the angel Jibril, incrementally over a period of 23 years. It began when the Prophet Muhammadﷺ was 40 years old and concluded with the year of his death. According to tradition, several companions of the Prophet Muhammadﷺ served as scribes and recorded the revelation during the lifetime of the Prophetﷺ . Shortly, after his death, the companions who had written down and memorized the parts of it compiled the Quran in written form. The first caliph, Abu Bakr, made the first full compilation of the Quran, and then the third Caliph Uthman, recompiled it in the original dialect after the best reciters died in battle. Muslims believe that the truth of the Quran is authentically and fully revealed in the original classical Arabic. However, as the influence of Islam spread and grew to the modern world, it became widely acknowledged that translation is an important element in explaining and introducing Islam to a wider audience of the world. This translated version of the Qur’an, by Abdullah Yusuf Ali, is considered to be the most faithful rendering that is available in English.
