DR. M. MANAZIR AHSAN is an M.A. in Islamic History and Culture from the University of Rajshahi, Bangladesh and has his doctorate in Middle Eastern History from the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London in 1973. He received his Arabic and Islamic education at 'Alia Madrasah in Bangladesh. At present, he is Director General of the Islamic Foundation and co-editor of its quarterly journal, the Muslim World Book Review. Some of his other publications are:Social Life Under the Abbasids (Longman and Librairie du Liban, 1979),The Qur'an: Basic Teachings (co- authored with Professors T.B. Irving and K.
