اشتدت المنافسة على المقعد الرئاسي ما بين الحمار و الفيل، فالحمار الحصاوي يدعي أنه الأقدر على "حمل" الأمانة، أما الفيل فيعتمد في دعايته على أنه مرشح "له وزنه"، ترى من سيفوز في الإنتخابات؟ وهل ستكون النتيجة مفاجأة للجميع؟ نجد أنفسنا أمام مناظرة انتخابية شديدة التنافسية بين الحمار والفيل على المقعد الرئاسي. وما أن يبدأ الحمار في توجيه كلامه للناخبين حتى يقاطعه الفيل و يبدأ الاثنان في الهجوم على بعضهما البعض؛ مرة بتوجيه اتهامات بالغرور والفساد، ومرة بمحاولة استمالة الناخبين بالحلوى والفول السوداني والوعود الدعائية… فالحمار يدعي أنه الأقدر على “حمل” الأمانة، أما الفيل فيعتمد في دعايته على أنه مرشح “له وزنه”، ترى من سيفوز في الإنتخابات؟ استطاع بن كلانتون عرض مفهوم ديمقراطي مهم من خلال عرض طرق وخطوات العملية الانتخابية وطرح العديد من الطرق المختلفة التي يلجأ إليها الناخبون في المناظرات وجذب الناخبين بطرق معنوية ومادية. كما نجح في جعل وجود الناخب خفيا حتى يوم النتيجة ليعكس رمزية عدم اهتمام المرشحين بالمواطنين. و لكن في النهاية، المواطن هو صاحب القوة الأعظم في التصويت و يمكن أن يفاجئ الجميع بالنتيجة. كعادة الكتب المصورة التي يرسمها مؤلفها، ساعدت رسومات كلانتون في تكملة النص و إضفاء بعض المرح عليه. كما استخدم الكاتب الرسام كل من يمين و يسار الصفح لرسم صورة أوسع و أكبر بعرض الصفحتين . كما انه استخدم اللونين الأحمر و الأزرق بدرجاتهم في تطور أحداث الكتاب ليعكس إحتدام المعركة بين الحزبين الأشهر في الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية: الديمقراطي و الجمهوري.

The competition for the presidential seat intensified between the donkey and the elephant. The pebbly donkey claims to be the best able to “carry” the trust, while the elephant relies in its propaganda as a candidate who “has weight.” Who will win the elections? Will the result be a shock to everyone?

Ben Clanton was able to describe an important concept of democracy by presenting the methods and steps of the electoral process and proposing many different ways that voters are swayed in debates and attracting voters in both moral and material ways. He also succeeded in making the voter's presence hidden until the day of the result to reflect the symbolism of the candidates' lack of interest in the citizens. But in the end, the citizen has the greatest power--to vote--and can surprise everyone with the results of the election.

As usual, in this author's picture books, Clanton's drawings help complement the text and add some fun to it. The writer-illustrator also uses both the right and the left of the page to draw a larger picture with the width of the two pages. He also uses red and blue colors in degrees throughout the development of the book's events to reflect the intensification of the battle between the two most famous parties in the United States of America: The Democratic and the Republican.
