قديماً جداً حين كان العالم لا يزال في بدايته اجتمعت كل الحيوانات في الغابة وتحلقت في دائرة كبيرة كانت الحيوانات حزينة جداً، ذلك أنها لم تكن تعرف كيف تتنقل أو تتكلم، سأل الغراب “من سيخبرنا ماذا نفعل؟” أجابت السلحفاة لا أحد علينا أن نتدبر أمرنا بأنفسنا، وهذا ما حدث حيث حاول كل حيوان القيام بما يعتقد أن يستطيع فعله، فزحفت الأفعى على بطنها، وقفز القرد بين الأشجار، ومشت الهرة على مخالبها، وطار الغراب متنقلاً من مكان لآخر، أما السلحفاة ولشدة حماسها فقد حاولت هي أيضاً الطيران غير أن قصر قوائمها وثقل صدفتها منعاها من الطيران، وأديا بالتالي لسقوطها أرضاً وتكسر الصدفة لأجزاء صغيرة، حاول الأصدقاء جمعها من جديد بشكل أظهر وجود تشققات بالصدفة
