Introduction – Part Six: Tajweed Series for Adults

All praise is due to Allah, who revealed the Qur’an as a source of guidance, light, and healing. Each word was sent with precision, and every rule of its recitation was taught by our Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, whose lips spoke the most perfect speech, and whose heart was filled with the truth. As our mother ʿĀ’ishah, may Allah be pleased with her, described him:
“His character was the Qur’an.”

We are honored to present Part Six of the Tajweed Series for Adults. This part focuses on some of the most essential skills needed for a confident and smooth recitation of the Qur’an: how to begin and end correctly, and how to pronounce the special hamzah (glottal stop) in different forms.

This book is divided into two key units:
Unit One: Hamzatul-Wasl and Hamzatul-Qat‘
⦁ The Meaning and Function of Hamzatul-Wasl and Hamzatul-Qat‘
⦁ The Conjunctive Hamzah
⦁ Words That Contain Both Types

Unit Two: Rules of Waqf and Ibtidā’
This unit teaches how to stop and start properly while reciting the Qur’an. These rules are critical for maintaining both the meaning and the beauty of the verses. Topics include:
⦁ The Basic Rules of Waqf
⦁ Optional Stop Types
⦁ Special Stops

Each lesson in this part of the series offers clear explanations, helpful examples, and practical exercises drawn directly from the Qur’an. Whether used for self-study or in a classroom setting, this book equips learners with essential tools to recite the Qur’an fluently and respectfully.

May Allah make this journey of learning a source of reward, light, and nearness to His words. And may He bless all those who seek to recite the Qur’an as it was revealed.
