Introduction – Part Three: Tajweed Series for Adults

All praise is due to Allah, the One who revealed the Noble Qur’an as a clear message and a complete guidance for all people. It is a book of wisdom, light, and mercy. Through it, hearts are softened, minds are enlightened, and lives are transformed. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, who conveyed this message with truth, patience, and excellence. He taught us the Qur’an not only through words, but through his actions, character, and example. Our mother ʿĀ’ishah, may Allah be pleased with her, said:
“His character was the Qur’an.”

We are pleased to present Part Three of our Tajweed Series for Adults. This part continues to build on essential tajweed rules, with a focus on two important letters when they carry sukoon (are silent): meem (م) and laam (ل). Understanding how to pronounce these letters properly in different contexts helps bring clarity, beauty, and correctness to your recitation of the Qur’an.

This book is divided into two main units:

Unit One: Al-Meem As-Sakinah
This unit explains how to correctly pronounce the letter meem when it has a sukoon. There are three key rules:
⦁ Al-Ikhfā’ Ash-Shafawī
⦁ Idghām Al-Mutamāthilayn As-Saghīr
⦁ Al-Iẓhār Ash-Shafawī

Unit Two: Al-Laam As-Sakinah (The Letter Laam with Sukoon)
In this unit, students will learn how to pronounce the letter laam when it is sakin (silent) in different word types. These include:
⦁ Laam of the Definite Article
⦁ Laam Sakinah in Verbs
⦁ Laam Sakinah in Nouns
⦁ Laam Sakinah in Prepositions
⦁ Laam Sakinah in Imperatives

Each lesson is designed to be practical and easy to follow. Clear explanations, examples from the Qur’an, and guided practice help learners apply each rule with confidence. This book is suitable for both classroom use and independent study.

May Allah accept your efforts, bless your journey in learning the Qur’an, and make it a light in your heart and your life.
