Learn from the life of Prophet Muhammad

As Muslims, we should look up to learn from the life of Prophet Muhammad peace and blessing be upon him. From the prophet we learned many lessons, he taught us to always be kind to others, help the one in need, don’t lose faith in Allah, and many more that we will discuss in this article.

Who is prophet?

Prophet Muhammad was born in the town of Mecca in the year 570, his father was Abd Allah bin Al-Muttalib and his mother was Amina bint Wahb. He was raised by a nurse named Halima. Muhammad's peace and blessing be upon him is the last prophet, and he came with the Islamic religion. What can we learn from the prophets?

• We learn from the life of Prophet Muhammad to always be honest:

The prophet and blessing be upon him were known for his honesty even being trustful. Even before being the prophet, people always trusted him. Being honest was rare at that time in Arabia. Because they were all merchants that always deceived customers to gain more money. The prophet was not like them he was honest with his customers, he was loyal whilst conducting trade. When he worked with Hazrat Khadija she wanted to test his honesty so she sent him on a journey trade and sent another man with him. The main observed the prophet and told her that he was different from the other merchants, he was loyal and honest. And he didn’t deceive others while conducting the trade to gain more money. Hazrat Khadija (RA) was impressed by that and she sent the prophet a proposal that he accepted. So from this we learn that we should always be honest.

• Follow the prophet object lesson

“Blessed be he who humbles himself before Allah without having any deficiency, and who humiliates himself without poverty.” [Tanbih al-Khawatir] We also learn from the prophet to be humble with others. The prophet's peace and blessing be upon him was humble with everyone, friends, family, followers, and even enemies. During the incident of Taif, the prophet's peace and blessing be upon him forgave the people who throw rocks at him. He never treated others with arrogance, he was so humble and was always there for people to help them and guide them. He ate and wore like the rest of the people.  

3.      Live a Simple Life:

The prophet's peace and blessing be upon him lived a very simple life even though he had the opportunity to take whatever he wants. He had access to all the resources he needed to live like a rich man. But he chose not to. He preferred to take care of the ones in need and feed the poor even if he won’t have anything left for himself.   The prophet's peace and blessing be upon him always chosen to help the poor. And he taught us to do the same; we should work for the afterlife instead of losing ourselves in the pleasures of life.

4.      Involve other people in decision-making:

Before you make a decision you should ask for other people’s opinions. The prophet (peace and blessing be upon him) always took the opinion of his followers in policymaking and leading the ummah. He never forced his opinion on others. For example, during the Battle of the Trench, he actively took advice from his followers. He took Hazrat Salman Farsi’s advice of digging a strategic trench to gain an advantage over the enemy. Because he listened to them they made a great strategy that resulted in making Muslims win the battle of the trench. From this we learn that we should ask people for their advice and listen to them, this will not make us less than them or anything. On the contrary, it will help us come up with a better decision.

5.      To always focus on our mission:

The prophet's peace and blessing be upon him focused on spreading Islam and the message of Allah. And he faced any obstacles that stopped in his way. At the beginning of spreading Islam in Makkah, the prophet faced many challenges but he didn’t back down no matter what happened.

6.      Give charity and help the once in need:

“Give charity without delay, for it stands in the way of calamity.” [Al-Tirmidhi] The prophet has always taken care of the people in need; he kept giving charity to poor people and the ones in need. Whether food, money, clothes, or whatever they need. And he instructed us to do the same, as Muslims we should give charity regularly.

7.      Honor and respect the rights of women:

The prophet's peace and blessing be upon him taught the Muslims that women are not something to control or deal with as their property. He taught them that women are humans too and that they should treat them with respect and kindness and never hurt them.

8.      From the prophet we learn to be kind to neighbors:

“Anyone who believes in God and the Day of Judgment should not harm his neighbor. Anyone who believes in God and the Day of Judgment should entertain his guest generously and should say what is good, or keep quiet.” [Sahih Bukhari] The prophet's peace and blessing be upon him was always kind to his neighbors even to the ones who have hurt him. From him, we learn that we should always be kind to others and build a good relationship with them.

9.      From the life and teachings of Muhammad peace and blessing be upon him we learn to always keep learning:

Being knowledgeable and always seeking for learning more is something that we should all seek to do. Not just in the matter of religion but in life. Knowledge brings us closer to Allah, so we should keep learning about new things.

10. Do Not Be Unfair:

“There is a Sadaqa to be given for every joint of the human body, and for every day on which the sun rises there is a reward of a Sadaqa (charitable gift) for the one who establishes justice among people.” [Sahih Bukhari] 11. Wish Good For Others. 12. Help and Strengthen One Another. 13. Be Kind to Every Living Being. 14. Do Not Criticize Others.

Prophet Muhammad's first revelation:

“prophet muhammad first revelation” One day when the prophet Muhammad's peace and blessing be upon him was praying and meditating he received the first revelation of the Quran. This night is called the night of power. When the prophet's peace and blessing be upon him was meditating in a cave on Mount Hira he saw the angel Jibril. The angel Jibril told him to read, but the prophet didn’t know how to read and write.
